Optical technology performances

50 years of optical research have enabled Essilor to develop unique ophthalmic innovations for presbyopes.

Most recent innovations:

- In 2006, Essilor created the first lens with High Resolution Vision. Varilux Physio integrates optical technologies from the field of astronomy.

- In 2008, Varilux Ipseo New Edition was created. This custom-made lens, designed according to each wearer's visual behaviour, was developed with the help of virtual reality technology.

- In 2009, Essilor has created the Varilux Experience to allow the public to discover the performances of its lenses. The viewer follows the voyage of a young presbyope who first wears single vision lenses, then bifocal lenses, then progressive lenses, and finally Varilux lenses. 

- In 2010, W.A.V.E. 2.0 technology is applied to the lenses of the Varilux Physio family : visual performance is improved by including the wearer’s pupil into the calculation. The wearer enjoys sharper images, high quality contrast and broader fields of vision in all light conditions.
